Atera Pricing per Technician for MSP and IT Department Plans, and What Ticket Routing Costs
October 2026 · Assigner
Atera pricing is per technician, not per device. On the IT department pricing page, Professional costs $149, Expert $189 and Master $219 per technician per month billed annually ($169, $229 and $269 billed monthly), and Enterprise is quoted. The MSP plans run Pro $129, Growth $159 and Power $209 billed annually ($139, $189 and $249 monthly). Every person who logs in to the Atera console needs a technician license, whatever their role.
Those are the prices Atera publishes in the structured data of its own pricing pages, which we read on 19 October 2026. Below is what each plan adds, how the per technician rule plays out for dispatchers and managers, yearly costs for 5, 10 and 15 technicians, and what it costs to get fair ticket assignment, because round robin through Atera ticket automation rules is included on every plan but routing by workload is not documented on any of them.
Atera pricing per technician for IT departments
Atera splits its price list in two: one page for internal IT teams and one for managed service providers. The IT department line has four tiers. All of them include AI Copilot, ticketing with a service portal, IT automations, classic reports and 24/7 chat support. Since June 2026 Copilot is bundled into every plan at no extra cost.
| IT department plan | Billed annually | Billed monthly | What it adds |
|---|---|---|---|
| Professional | $149 | $169 | RMM, patching, Splashtop (2 concurrent sessions), 1 custom support address, 1 month audit log, 15GB file transfer, mobile app |
| Expert | $189 | $229 | Unlimited Splashtop sessions, AnyDesk, 11 preset reports, ticket auto tagging, up to 5 custom asset types, 2 support addresses, 6 month audit log, 50GB |
| Master | $219 | $269 | Up to 10 custom analytics reports, 20 custom asset types, unlimited support addresses, 12 month audit log, 80GB, data recovery |
| Enterprise | Quote | Quote | SSO, Azure AD continuous sync, Network Discovery, unlimited custom reports, 7 year audit log, HIPAA BAA, 99.9% uptime SLA |
Prices are per technician per month. The gap between annual and monthly billing is $20 a seat on Professional and $40 to $50 on the higher tiers, so a 10 person IT team on Professional pays $2,400 more a year for the right to cancel monthly.
Atera MSP pricing plans
The MSP page lists three public tiers and a custom Enterprise plan. Atera describes it as an all in one platform for MSPs with transparent per technician pricing: a technician can support unlimited customers and unlimited devices, which is the whole pitch against per endpoint RMM pricing.
| MSP plan | Billed annually | Billed monthly |
|---|---|---|
| Pro | $129 | $139 |
| Growth | $159 | $189 |
| Power | $209 | $249 |
| Enterprise | Custom, through sales | |
One warning if you are comparing sources. An older Atera blog post on helpdesk pricing still says the MSP plan starts at $159 billed monthly, and third party listings on TrustRadius, Software Advice and Spendbase quote a mix of $139 and $159 for monthly Pro. The pricing page itself says $139 today. Budget from the pricing page, not from a review site.
For an MSP, the per seat number is rarely the whole budget. Many shops bundle other managed services into the same client contract, such as email blacklist monitoring for client domains or backup, and Atera sells some extras through its App Center with their own prices. If you are pricing a PSA at the same time, our breakdowns of Autotask PSA pricing and ConnectWise PSA pricing use the same per technician math.
Who needs a technician license in Atera
Atera states it directly: anyone who needs access to the Atera console needs a technician license, regardless of the role they have. That rule decides more of your bill than the tier does.
- Dispatchers and service coordinators. If they open the console to assign tickets, they are a full seat at the same price as a technician.
- Service managers and owners. Reviewing tickets or reports inside Atera takes a seat.
- Part time or on call technicians. A person who covers weekends still needs a license to work tickets in the console.
- End users. They do not need seats. They submit and track tickets through the service portal or email.
So a team of eight technicians plus one dispatcher and one service manager is a 10 seat purchase. On IT Professional billed annually that is $17,880 a year, of which $3,576 pays for the two people who never fix a device. Reducing manual dispatch does not reduce the license count unless the dispatcher stops logging in.
What Atera costs per year for 5, 10 and 15 technicians
All figures below are annual billing, multiplied out for twelve months, before tax and before any add on.
| Technicians | IT Professional | IT Expert | IT Master | MSP Pro | MSP Growth | MSP Power |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 5 | $8,940 | $11,340 | $13,140 | $7,740 | $9,540 | $12,540 |
| 10 | $17,880 | $22,680 | $26,280 | $15,480 | $19,080 | $25,080 |
| 15 | $26,820 | $34,020 | $39,420 | $23,220 | $28,620 | $37,620 |
Each step up the IT ladder costs $40 then $30 per technician per month. For 10 technicians, Professional to Expert is $4,800 a year and Expert to Master another $3,600.
What ticket routing costs in Atera
Ticket automation rules are part of the standard plans, and Atera sets no limit on how many you create. With them you can assign a named technician, set a technician group, or set the Technician field to Auto Assignment, which rotates tickets in round robin order among technicians whose role includes the auto assignment permission. Technicians marked Out of office are skipped. That much costs nothing beyond the seat.
Two routing upgrades cost money or cannot be bought:
- Routing on AI tags. Ticket auto tagging, which lets a rule send printer tickets or network tickets to the right people based on content, is listed from Expert up on IT department pricing. For 10 technicians that is the $4,800 a year step from Professional.
- Routing by workload or skills. Atera documents round robin order and nothing about open ticket counts, effort or skills, on any tier. The rotation gives the technician with twelve open tickets the next one on the same terms as the technician with two.
The details of how rules run, including the group first ordering that leaves tickets unassigned and the first match wins flow, are on our page about auto assigning tickets with Atera rules.
Upgrade the tier or add a routing layer
If what you want from Expert is mainly better ticket distribution, compare it with adding an assignment tool beside Atera. Assigner decides which available technician takes each ticket by rotation, load, skills and working hours, and records the reason for every assignment. It works beside the help desk and receives new tickets by email forward, webhook or API.
| Option for 10 technicians | Extra cost per year | What you get for routing |
|---|---|---|
| Atera Professional to Expert | $4,800 | Rules can match AI tags; assignment is still a fixed technician or round robin |
| Assigner Starter, billed yearly | $840 | Round robin that skips people who are out or off shift, with a reason per ticket |
| Assigner Team, billed yearly | $2,160 | Adds load balanced routing with a cap per person |
That comparison is narrow on purpose. Expert also buys unlimited Splashtop sessions, AnyDesk, preset reports and longer audit logs, and if your team needs those the upgrade pays for more than tags. Assigner pricing is per user with a 5 user minimum: Starter $7 per user per month billed yearly ($15 monthly), Team $18 ($36), Business $36 ($72) and Enterprise $49 ($98). See the full Assigner pricing, or try the routing studio at the top of this page with your own team.
Which Atera plan fits which team
- IT Professional or MSP Pro fits a small team that mostly needs RMM, patching and a help desk, where one rotation for all tickets is good enough.
- IT Expert fits a team that runs several remote sessions at once, needs AnyDesk, or wants rules to route by ticket content through auto tags.
- IT Master fits teams with reporting or compliance needs, longer audit logs and more custom asset types.
- Enterprise fits organizations that need SSO, continuous Azure AD sync, a HIPAA BAA or the uptime SLA.
For an MSP with more than a handful of technicians and clients with different service levels, the question is usually less about the tier and more about how tickets get to people. Our page on MSP ticket assignment covers routing by client, contract and technician load.

Is Atera priced per device or per technician?
Per technician. Atera charges a fixed monthly fee for each technician using the software, and each technician can support unlimited customers and devices. The catch is the definition of technician: anyone who needs access to the Atera console needs a license, including dispatchers and managers who never touch a device.
Does Atera have a free plan?
No free plan is listed on the pricing pages. Atera offers a 30 day free trial with no credit card, with access to the Expert plan, and you pick a paid plan at the end. Monthly plans can be cancelled any time, and annual plans can be cancelled at the end of the term.
Which Atera plan includes ticket automation rules?
All of them. Atera says core automation rule capabilities are available on standard plans, with no limit on the number of rules, and round robin auto assignment works on every tier. Some AI based actions may need add ons, and ticket auto tagging, used to route by content, is listed from Expert up on IT pricing.
