Asana is priced per user per month. Billed yearly, Starter costs $10.99 and Advanced $24.99 per user; billed monthly the same plans are $13.49 and $30.49. Enterprise and Enterprise+ are quoted by sales, and the free Personal plan covers 2 users. The number most buyers miss is the seat rule: between 6 and 30 users Asana sells seats in blocks of 5, so a 12 person team pays for 15. For automatic task assignment the plan line that matters is lower down, because rules and round robin start on Starter while script actions, the only native way to balance by workload, need Enterprise.

Every price and seat rule below was read from the Asana pricing page in October 2026. The routing details come from the Asana developer documentation and the Asana Community announcement of round robin assignment. Contract benchmarks come from Vendr. Prices exclude tax.

Asana pricing per user in 2026

Asana sells its work management product in five plans. Annual billing saves up to 18% against month to month, and Asana states that all paid plans let you add unlimited members, so the plan sets the features, not a user ceiling.

Advanced$24.99$30.49YesYesNo

Personal is for one or two people and has no rules, so it cannot assign anything automatically. Starter adds timeline and Gantt views, reporting dashboards, forms that turn requests into tasks, custom fields and unlimited automations. Advanced adds portfolios, goals, approvals and proofing, form branching, time tracking and resource management that balances workloads within a portfolio. Enterprise adds SAML, SCIM provisioning, universal resource management across the organization and capacity planning. Enterprise+ adds compliance controls such as audit logs, data residency and SIEM integrations.

How Asana counts seats, and why 12 users cost 15

The pricing FAQ spells out the seat increments. Between 2 and 5 total users you add seats one at a time. Up to 30 users, seats come in increments of 5. Up to 100, increments of 10. Up to 500, increments of 25, and above 500, increments of 50.

That rule changes the real price per person for small and midsize teams. A team of 12 buys 15 seats, so on Starter it pays $10.99 times 15 rather than times 12, an effective $13.74 per actual user per month on annual billing. A team of 42 buys 50. Count the people who will actually log in before you pick a seat block, and plan hires around the block boundary.

What Asana costs per year for real team sizes

Annual cost is the seat block times the per user price times 12. These figures use list prices with annual billing.

People on the teamSeats billedStarter per yearAdvanced per yearUpgrade cost, Starter to Advanced
810$1,318.80$2,998.80$1,680.00
1215$1,978.20$4,498.20$2,520.00
2525$3,297.00$7,497.00$4,200.00
4250$6,594.00$14,994.00$8,400.00

One cross check: Vendr, which tracks real Asana purchases, shows the low end of its observed range at $7,497 a year, exactly 25 Advanced seats at list price. The same page reports a median of $41,979 a year across 469 purchases, a high end of $142,800, and average savings of about 15% for buyers who negotiated (Vendr, page updated February 2026).

Asana Enterprise license cost

Asana publishes no Enterprise price. Vendr estimates that Enterprise often starts at $30 to $40 or more per user per month on annual commitments, and that organizations with 500 to 2,000 users commonly reach $22 to $32 per user per month on multi year contracts. Treat both as third party benchmarks, not list prices. If you are upgrading only for one feature, ask for that feature in writing in the order form, because Enterprise quotes are built from seat count, required features and contract term.

Which Asana plan you need to auto assign tasks

This is where the plan grid and the buying decision part ways. Automatic assignment in Asana is a rule with the Set assignee action, and rules are on every paid plan. So the question is not which plan has assignment, but which kind of assignment your team needs.

  • Fixed owner or owner by field value. Starter is enough. A rule assigns every new design request to one lead, or maps each Request type option to a person.
  • Rotation through a team. Asana announced round robin inside Set assignee on 27 August 2026 for Starter, Advanced, Enterprise and Enterprise+. It rotates through an ordered list of teammates. The rollout is gradual, and admins in the announcement thread said in early September that they could not see it yet.
  • Balance by open workload, skip people who are out. The announcement mentions neither. Asana resource management on Advanced shows workload, but showing load is not assigning by it. The native way to assign by load is a script action, and the developer docs state that script actions are available to Enterprise and Enterprise+ customers only.

So a 12 person team that wants least loaded assignment inside Asana is looking at a move from about $2,000 a year on Starter to an Enterprise quote, plus the time to write and maintain the script. We cover the mechanics, including the vacation pile and new hire flood that rotation creates, on the Asana auto assign tasks page.

AI Studio and AI request costs

Asana AI Studio is available on Starter and above, and some teams use an AI rule to choose an assignee. Asana now bills AI work per request: prepaid packs at $0.50 per request, or on demand at $0.60 per request billed monthly. A team that routes 300 intake tasks a month through an AI step spends about $150 to $180 a month on requests alone, on top of seats. Admins who tried to keep a fair rotation with AI Studio in 2025 reported in the Asana Community that it could not maintain a global rotation, because it could not see other tasks, so price this route only for classification, not for balancing.

Keep Starter and add a routing layer, or upgrade

For most teams that are shopping Asana plans because work lands unevenly, the cheaper answer is to keep the plan that fits how they work and add assignment logic beside it. Assigner routes operations tasks by rotation, open load, skills and live availability, records why each person was chosen, and sends the decision back to the task through a signed webhook. It is priced per user at $7 per month billed yearly on Starter and $18 on Team, where load balanced routing starts, with a 5 user minimum, and you license only the people who receive work.

12 people, annual billingAsana seatsAssignment logicApproximate yearly total
Asana Starter with native round robin$1,978.20Rotation only, no load or time off$1,978.20
Asana Starter plus Assigner Team$1,978.20$2,592.00 for 12 users, load, caps, availability, reasons$4,570.20
Asana Enterprise with a script actionQuote, Vendr estimate $30 to $40+ per userYour own code to write and maintainAbout $5,400 to $7,200 at 15 seats, before the script work

The Enterprise row uses the Vendr range at the 15 seat block and is an estimate, not a quote. If the team also handles client tickets or sales leads, the same Assigner rules cover those queues, which an Asana script does not. Before you sign any renewal, check the seat count on the last invoice against the people who actually logged in; finance teams that process a lot of SaaS bills often pull those line items with invoice data extraction rather than retyping them.

Asana pricing questions buyers ask

How much is an Asana license?

An Asana license costs $10.99 per user per month on Starter and $24.99 on Advanced when billed yearly, or $13.49 and $30.49 billed monthly. Enterprise and Enterprise+ licenses are priced by sales. Seats are sold in blocks of 5 between 6 and 30 users and blocks of 10 up to 100.

What is the Asana premium price per user?

Premium is the old name. Asana retired Premium and Business, and the current equivalents are Starter at $10.99 and Advanced at $24.99 per user per month billed yearly. Legacy customers may still see Premium on renewals, so compare features rather than names when a quote arrives.

Does Asana charge per user or per seat?

Per seat, bought in blocks. Every paid plan is priced per user per month, but you buy a seat count from fixed increments: single seats up to 5 users, then blocks of 5, 10, 25 and 50 as the team grows. Unused seats in a block are still billed.

Is Asana round robin included in Starter?

Yes. Asana listed Starter, Advanced, Enterprise and Enterprise+ as eligible when it announced round robin in Set assignee on 27 August 2026. The rotation follows an ordered list of teammates and does not weigh open workload or time off, according to the announcement.

Which Asana plan has workload management?

Advanced includes resource management that balances workloads within a portfolio, and Enterprise adds universal resource management and capacity planning across the organization. Both show load for a manager to act on. Neither assigns new tasks by load on its own; that takes a script action on Enterprise or a routing tool.
